PTE EXAM FORMAT

Let us look closely at the different sections one by one:

A. SPEAKING SECTION

  • Read Aloud
  • Repeat Sentence
  • Describe Image
  • Re-tell Lecture
  • Answer Short Question

As we can see that there are five task types in the Speaking section. Usually, the students find Describe Images & Retell Lecture a little difficult, and usually struggle a lot with them among all the five question types and hence, they are been advised to focus more on these question types, as these are the most challenging of the lot.

B. WRITING SECTION

  • Summarize Written Text
  • Write an Essay

In the Writing section, we have two question types, the first one is Summarize Written Text and the second one being Write Essay. Let us firstly try to comprehend the Summarize Written Text. Well, here you will see a paragraph of text which is up to three hundred words long, and you will have ten minutes to attend it. Use all those ten minutes to read the paragraph of text and you are supposed to write a single sentence that captures the main idea of the text.

You must note that the students usually are given two to three Summarize Written Texts questions where they are allotted ten minutes to complete each question

In the second question type which is the Write Essay, a candidate has to write an essay of two to three hundred words on the topic which is not going to be so abstract, and the time limit allotted to the students would be twenty minutes.

C. READING SECTION

  • Multiple Choice (choose single answer)
  • Multiple Choice (choose multiple answers)
  • Re-order Paragraphs
  • Reading: Fill In The Blanks
  • Reading & Writing: Fill In The Blanks

These are the five-question types that you would come across in the Reading section. Usually, we try to focus on the Re-order Paragraphs and Fill In The Blanks question types more because they are slightly trickier and tougher than the rest. Otherwise, all types of questions are equally significant.

D. LISTENING SECTION

  • Summarize Spoken Text
  • Multiple Choice (choose multiple answers)
  • Fill In The Blanks
  • Highlight Correct Summary
  • Multiple Choice ( choose single answer)
  • Select Missing Word
  • Highlight Incorrect Words
  • Write from Dictation

Listening means hearing with focus, and that is what exactly you have to do here. The listening section has eight types of questions as you can see above. Though each and every question type has its own weight, the important questions here are the Summarize  Spoken Text, Fill In The Blanks & Write from Dictation. In the Summarize Spoken Text, you will a recording and then you have ten minutes to summarize the entire recording into fifty to seventy words. Next is the Fill In The Blanks, and the name explains itself as you just have to fill the blanks given. Lastly, in the Write from Dictation question type, you will hear a short recording of around ten words or so & then you have to type it up immediately.
